It could be trying to run in windowed mode, in which case your screen resolution must be higher than that of the default window size, or the window can't be opened. Set your screen resolution as Skullz described above, and check your game documentation for running in windowed or full-screen modes.
It might also be worth checking if your screen supports such a high resolution and that your screen drivers are up to date.

screen resolution problems
I was playing a game called Command and Conquer 3. I set my screen resolution too low and there is an error message saying my resolution needs to be >1280*1024. Is there any way I can set the resolution manually? I have windows xp.
