Programs Crash Randomly...

I cannot open programs on my computer because they all crash. I've tried running a System Restore, AntiVirus Scan, and Hijackthis log in safe mode and regular mode but they crash before I can do anything. I can't do any troubleshooting that involves a Windows boot cd because my laptop didn't come with it and I also can't work with explorer because explorer.exe sometimes crashes (I've been using ms-dos to access my files). Its only luck that I was able to run Firefox and type this.

The only thing I can suggest is to look in event logs for errors. Right click on my computer>manage>event viewer. Post any event related to a system shutdown.
