Help, I lost everything! No desktop or start menu etc
Hi,
I recently was given a laptop with Windows XP Professional loaded onto it. However, there were 3244 viruses etc found on it when I used AVG 8.0 to detect them. I thought that sorted the problem as previously the internet didn't work. Now, I load XP as normal and it goes through the normal motions and I click my profile on the start up screen. It says 'loading personal settings' and then all I get is my wallpaper.
The Start menu is gone, and the Task bar and all of the icons which were previously on the desktop. I have nothing. So I have tried to sort it through Windows Task Manager and I can see all of these files but can't use anything. Also, in 'processes' there is no i.explorer or anything!
All that is there is 12 image names with 'system' and 2 with 'network service' and 1 with 'local service'.
Is this to do with registry keys or something?
Please help because I need that laptop for everything!?!
