No hard disk found

I have an HP Pavillion n420a with windows Xp it is about 5 years old, The hard drive died so I replaced it ran the recovery software and now when I boot up it has no hard disk found...recovery will not complete ....press any key to continue. then the desktop appears. What could be causing this message.

Just a quickie, when you say the desktop appears, do you mean that windows then boots ok and you can use it with no problems?

select cable select option from hard disk jumper settings. I think it will solve your problem. Your Motherboard is not recognizing your hard disk.
