MB of ram is the amount of memory in units.

"1.00 GHz, 240 MB" will run XP, but it won't be snappy. It's a low specification by current standards.
If the 1Ghz refers to a value processor, the performance will be lower still.
It's acceptable for some things. Depends what you want to use it for.

GHz refers to the speed of your processor, and by today's standards, 1GHz is very slow.

MB means MegaBytes, and refers to either the amount of RAM (Accessible Memory) you have, or the size of your Hard Drive.

A 240MB Hard Drive is good (giving you plenty of room to store programs and data), whereas 240MB of RAM is not. You might be able to run XP on it, but XP needs a minimum of 512MB, and the recommended minimum is 1024MB or 1GB (Gigabyte) of memory, but 2GB or even 4GB or more is ideal.

Generally speaking, if you were to run XP and XP compatible programs on a computer with a 1GHz processor and 240MB of RAM, you'd soon get very frustrated.

That spec might have been ok several years ago, but not now.

If you're considering buying a computer, as a rule of thumb you should be looking at 2GHz (or higher) processor speed, 1GB (or more) of RAM and 80GB (or more) Hard Drive capacity, which is still quite low by today's standards.

XP needs 512 megs minimum? Nope. I think you mistake it for Vista.
Xp will run on a P2 with 64 megs of ram. Slow, but it works. I actually use 96 Megs for a speed boost.

A 1gig cpu with 240megs of ram will even work for older gaming. No frustration needed. The spec is still rellevent now.
As I said. Depends what you want to use it for.

Forget the rule of thumb. You use the spec that suits you. Not what people think is the right one to them.

Note: you can buy a C2D that runs at a measly 1.6 Ghz. It's far from slow.

I wasn't saying he couldn't run it, I was merely saying he would have difficulties in doing so. You mistook it as disagreeing with your comment.

Why do you consider my answer to the OP's post a personal affront to your comment? I actually thought I should have referred to your post to with hindsight.

Is this your private domain? Aren't other people allowed to answer questions you've already answered?

Well, in that case I'm quite obviously serving no purpose whatsoever here, and as soon as I can find the delete profile link I wil do exactly that.

Happy now?

How sad, I really enjoyed being here.

Sensitive! I felt like wiping my slate too, quite a few times.
You think your're the only one who gets to feel that way on here? Chill out man and bite the bullet.

I put you straight and you can't handle it? That's your problem, not mine.

Edit: 1000 = 1 GB (GigaByte) Minimum for XP and Vista.
I think you will find you're wrong too: 1,073,741,824 bytes = 1 Gig of RAM. Not 1000.

Minimum specs for XP:
PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;
(Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended)
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended
(64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

1.5 Gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device.

Minimum specs for Vista:
800 MHz processor and 512 MB of system memory
20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
Support for Super VGA graphics

If you want to advise people, then at least do so correctly. Don't start crying when you are shown to be wrong.

Do us all a favour. Don't just threaten to leave, do it.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the post Ant made. And for your information, 512MB - 768MB RAM has been the 'recommended/advised' minimum to run XP satisfactorily for a long time.

Now quit pouting and live up to your promises, as your not particularly welcome on this forum due to your arrogance and attitude in general.

Jazz and co

Cry babies. XP needs yada yada *sniffle*. Lock the topic 'cos we're right and known specs are wrong.

You soft gets! Grow up and stop misinforming! Go to the nursery forum and learn a bit.

Actually, delete my account and all posts forthwith. Failure will result in a letter of abuse. I won't be associated with a board that obviously houses underage users.

Arguments will always happen on forums.

If you do not agree to someone's post: disagree and post your opinion.

No personal attacks please. I'm locking this thread now.
