no sound from xp !!!!!!!!!!

OK here i go . i was having issues with my sound on my computer . i was also getting a yellow ! mark next to my media control devices . well one of the issues . the other was that i was getting a error 10 and then a 21 when i tried to install realtek ( i know i spelled it wrong ) but it was telling me that windows did not confirm it was compatible with it . so i tried and i tried but no good . well i don't know what happen really but i uninstalled the realtek and then it went into a restart mood. well when it tried to start again it went to a checklist for my hard drive . and it found somethings in it and when it came back on i no longer had the yellow ! or the ?
but it did have sound now and it installed a ( c-media ac97 audio device ) on to it . and everything on my device manager is running great nothing yellow on it . i don't know what i really did to tell you the truth . but that's what happen to me . i hope you could understand what i wrote . try a hard drive check . if you go to my computer and right click then properties . it is called error checking . on windows xp . might work i think it did for me . i just thought everyone might want to know sorry if i t doesn't
