Unhappy XP SP2, Netgear WG511T adapter, can't ping world wide web addresses

Hi,

I am trying to be as specific as possible and I didn't want to post here until I had searched the internet and tried just about everything. okay, what else can I tell you. i am connected to verizon fios and it has been a pain. I do have a connection and i do get an ip address assigned (get out from under the 0.0.0.0 was fun).

i can ping #.#.#.# addresses up to 1454 in size. i set mtu in the registry to that size in case there was something wrong with packet size. no dice.

i am at the point where this is beyond me. what else can i do? i am obviously connected to the internet and my computer has no problem sending and receiving information from numerical addresses, but it can't translate (or whatever in the heck it does) to ping www.google.com.

HELP!!!! Thanks Mandi.
