Device manager is empty!

I have window xp professional service pack 2

I ran msconfig and disabled everything in the service tab (when I meant to do it in the start up tab). When I did that I started having problems with other programs. I have no sound, can't uninstall programs, can't sign onto AOL, my firewall is not working, etc...

In the service tab I noticed that a lot of the programs have been stopped. I tried to get them running again but nothing is working. Then I went to my device manager and it is completely empty.

I tried to enable everything in the service tab again and downloaded the microsoft xp professional service pack 2 but nothing works.

How do I fix this problem?

my device manager is not empty anymore but my sound still does not work. i went into the control panel and it says that i have no aduio device.

You may need to go to the device manager uninstall sound devices then reboot and let Windows reinstall the sound.
