Strange Run Time error

I have a cousin who has a shared computer. When some of the users log in they get the following message and then the system is locked to further entry:

Run Time error'-214748113 (8000ffff)';

Automation Error
Catastrophic failure

I tried searching on this, but nothing came up. Does anyone gave a clue? Bob will thank you. I tried to tell him it was Microsoft's way of telling the other users to get their own computer, but he didn't buy that. I wonder why I have no credibility with him? Surely he isn't still upset about a couple of incidents when we were kids?

Here is the answer:

"Here is the answer to your problems. Go to your control panel under add and remove programs you will see a hot fix for kb929777. Uninstall this hot fix. Windows will tell you to reboot, do it. Download the kb929777 for the windows website not the auto update site, (if you do it will install the hot fix first before the kb929777 and then kb929777 will not install again). After successful update you will need to reboot. check for updates( there should be none and your history should show successful update on the kb929777"

hope this helps

Cheers

Snowmonkey, Thanks. I have forwarded all of this to my cousin in Ohio. If this fixes his problem, he will be more grateful than you can know. I still think he should tell the others to get their own computer, but the credibility thing, you know

Unfortunately, this seems to be a Vista upgrade and we are working with XP. So this won't help in this case.

Anyone else?
