No Sounds Multimedia Audio Controller Error

HI THERE IM NOT VERY GOOD AT COMPS BUT ILL DO MY BEST TO EXPLAIN, I HAD MY COMPUTER REFORMATTED A WHILE BACK AND LOST MY SOUND AND MY USB PORTS THE USB PORTS SUDDENLY CAME BACK ON THERE OWN BUT I STILL HAVE NO SOUND WHEN I GO INTO MY DEVICE MANAGER THERE IS A YELLOW QUESTION MARK NEXT TO MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLERS AND IT WILL NOT UPDATE AS IT SAYS CANNOT FIND DRIVER.
i am using microsoft windows xp prof version 2002 service pack 2

computer is AMD ATHLON(tm) XP 1800

1.53 GHZ, 256 MB RAM

Not sure wat info you need to help me so please ask and i will gladly help if you show me how to get it??

additional info

forgot to say in first post, when i play a sound i dont get an error message saying no sound device it appears to play normally but i dnt hear nething, and in my multi media setting it says the driver is realtek ac97 audio controller. but i still have yellow question mark in device manager

Double click on the 1 with the yellow ? mark, and it'll give you an error code. What is it.

Exclamation error code

its now saying the drivers are not installed and the error code is 28

there are 3 boards at MSI for MS-6382 2 have Realtek AC'97 audio and 1 has Via AC'97 audio, Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section, see if it shows the audio installed

I have no sounds, and cant play videos nor music. What can I do? I downloaded all the sofwares that hp.com has for the public.
