My computer freezes during bootup / req's multiple resets

My friend is having some problems with his "new" computer: following are his description of the problem:

"sometimes when i turn it on the fan goes on but nothing nothing runs or somtimes it load up to the checking nvram and frezzzes there"

"i have to keep pressing the reset button a few times before it start loading up windows"

"I dont get any error messages, Ive also updated the BIOS"

System specs:

win xp pro, (sp1)
amd 3000,
512mb ram,
WD 250gb hd,
asus k8n motherboard (BIOS k8n1004)

PSU Antec 350W
running norton internet security, norton antivirus.

The current problem happened a few days ago, OUT of the Blue, there were no changes in hardware or any new software installed. No loose wires / connections. Also did a full disk scan/checked marked. It is ok.

Any help would be great.

It sounds like you may have a hardware problem. Try downloading the Ultimate boot CD and see if that can help you diagnose the problem by using the utilities on the CD.

Thanks, I wouldn't mind getting that boot cd too. LoL.. but how does it record logs? Do you put a empty floppy into the drive?? Ack.. At least I dont have to go hunting for my floppies anymore. Even though they are only a meter to my right..

Too bad you dont have any more advice for my friends problem?? I'll see what happens. But thanks for all the help, waresoft
