xp Install

Help!! I have been trying to install XP pro in my computer for 2 days> I tryied to do,a clean install and had no luck. Next I tried installing win98 and then using xp as an upgrade. Ok, that looked like it was going to work. I got the install process going. I put in the product numbers and everything seemed fine. I got to the black xp page and while the indicator on the page seems to show that XP is working it won't go any further. What should I do? Help me please. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I had an XP upgrade installed over my Win98 program by a PC World employee. I have had quite a few problems and the general advice was that a clean install is much better and gives less problems.

As I understand it, the XP upgrade disk is no different from the full program disk, except that at some stage, the upgrade disk calls for you to insert the Win98 disk to verify you have it. So there would be no point in installing both programs, you can choose to revert to Win98, or clean install the upgrade to XP. I am hanging on and fixing problems as they arise (including one or two spectacular crashes) but if these don't settle down, then I intend to reformat and clean install XP, so I would be very interested to know whether you succeeded in the end.

XP Upgrade

I have taken careful note of the websites. Many thanks, they will be invaluable when I manage to talk my brother into doing - a clean install..... I'm a bit scared of having a go!

Thanks for all help that was given to me> I got my XP installed. I had to go with the upgrade and it installed with ease after I removed a usb card that I had left in. Evedently XP didn't like this card and that was why it kept from finishing the installtion. Once again thanks for all the help I was given. Twoslick2
