Click on "Start" -- Go to contol panel - open " add&remove programs" -- open "add&remove windows components" on the left side of screen -- pick -- " internet explorer" -- pick remove.

I've tried that. Doing that only removes Internet Explorer from the start menu and other shortcuts.

Yes, you are absolutely right. IE is too far integrated into the xp operating system to be removed. Trying to do it manually would be too risky I think. Why do you want to remove it? Are you having trouble with it? You can install another browser and make it default if you like. You can search browsers here and read up on alternatives. Avant is very nice.

Well, actually i am having prblems with windows explorer. Everytime i try to get into a porgram, or any of my files, an error message comes up saying "Windows explorer has encontured a problem and needs to close." Then it asks if i want to send an error report. If i try to access internet explorer, it gives an error for that as well. I figure that re-installing might fix whatever corrupt file i have. I can only work out of safe mode. It is very frustrating and i don't know what to do.

beeboy is right. MS has done alot to make sure you can't get IE out of XP. Earlier versions are different. Here is Microsofts page on the subject:

It sounds more than IE problems to me. Do you have system restore enabled? If so go back to another time and try that first. Its found in system tools. The last time I had that problem I had to reinstall the OS. You will probably have to boot from the xp install cd and choose the repair option. This will restore the entire file system and save your personal stuff and programs. But before you do this last step wait here for more input from others.

I agree that there seems to be a misunderstanding here. Internet Explorer is not the same as windows explorer. The page I referred you to deals only with the browser.

I have tried everything. I went back 1 week to my restore points and nothing worked. I did the CD repair and that didn't work. I think that was my last chance. I am afraid i might have to dump my hard drive and re-install XP. I don't know how this problem occured. It happened over night. I think i got hacked or something like that.

I've just been told that deleting IE will also delete Explorer. Microsoft leads you step by step through the deletion of IE in pre-XP systems but doesn't tell that your also deleting Explorer.

I don't know if this is true. Has anyone here ever deleted IE?

I had the same problem i restored it 3 times things would be ok for the first few days then windows explorer would crash after sending numerouse reports to microsoft this si what they had to say i need a program called fast track but said it couldnt tell me anything about it and sent me to a website well i downloaded it and it fixed my windows problem if you look in your control panel under add or remove programs if you dont see a program called
"ft remove only" and "ftp remove only if you only have "ft remove only" then you will need to go to the link and download the patch
if you have neither then you will need to download one then restart your system and go back to same link and download the update then restart and you should not have any problems with explorer here is the link good luck hope it works as well for you and others as it did for me
