Problem with MSN Messenger 5.0 in Windows XP

1) Version of XP

-Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600

2) Hardware setup :

-Athlon XP 2000 + 1.67 GHz
-ATI Radeon 8500 ALL-IN-WONDER 64MB DV (Driver Version 6.14.10.6343)
-512 RAM PC2700 DDR
-Pioneer DVD-RW DV-104
-NEC AccusSync 75F
-Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC (Network)
-Using a Cable modem, supplied by my ISP, Dccnet.
-60 GB HD, 18.3 GB Free. IBM 60GB 7200 ATA100 HD
-1.44 Black FD
-A7V33-RUF motherboard (1402)
-Creative Audio Inspire 5.1 5300 (Speakers)
-Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer 24 Bit

3) What exactly happened leading up to the problem

My problem is with MSN Messenger Version 5.0 (5.0.0544), I downloaded the Windows XP version specifically.

I don't know if this is exactly the right place to get help with this, but I would really appreciate any help.

Basically I will be on MSN Messenger and it disconnects, however on my MSN it appears that I am still online or away or on whatever status setting I have it set on, while the people I am talking too say "Hey it says your are offline". Often I will think I'm online and try and change my status, and it says "Your Status could not be change, Please try again later" then I have to sign in again. Sometimes I will be talking to someone, I'll send afew messages and it says something like "The following messages could not be deliever, please try again later" and I am disconnected back to the Sign In screen and only moments before I was talking to them without problems.

Also I sometimes can be talking to someone, and it says I'm offline on their end but I am still talking to them.

4) Exact error messages

Often its, "The following message(s) could not be delivered"
"Your Status could not be change, Please try again later"

5) Any antivirus, firewall software you are running

-Zone Alarm, Version 3.7.159 (Truevector security Version 3.7.159, Driver version 3.7.159)
-Norton Antivirus, Version 8.07.17C

I'm begging anyone out there that might have a solution to help, its getting really anyone.. I had this problem months ago and it went away, and now its back. Other programs like ICQ work without problems, same with online games, downloads etc..

Thanks for any help.

I don't use MSN Messenger so I don't think I can be of much help. You may consider downloading MSN Messenger 6.0 to see if it helps. All I've heard about it is that some people have had trouble installing it.
