Sound card problem

When i try to play music in windows media player i get the following error message

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.

My computer's newly put together (not by me, by someone who knows what they're doing) and i've installed all the drivers that came with the motherboard (sound card built in), graphics card and windows xp pro as my operating system, but still get that message... can anyone help please?

I've spent hours reading posts on here tryin to find a solution for myself but i can't. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, from a file called WDM_R167) It doesn't find new hardware when it's uninstalled tho i just reinstall it. I've seen people posting belarc advisor stuff for their comp so mines below if it helps.

First, try to remove the PCI card from the PC.

Once the card is removed, then gently rub with an eraser of a #2 pencil on the portion of the card (the part of the PCI Card that is used for inserting into the motherboard). Try not to rub the eraser on the card too hard.

It seems like a mystery to me, but sometimes PCI cards has difficulty after a while with communicating with the motherboard, and it helped me.

After a little touch, insert the card back into the slot and restart the computer.

Biostar don't show that motherboard, Get Everest, copy and paste the Computer / Summary section
Once you open Everest, click on file, preferences, report and uncheck the 'include debug information in the report' box.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

lets see what it shows, the chipset should help
