XP install - no sound PCI device error message - assistance required

Hi all

I am new to this forum and computers in general so please be gentle ( second attempt to post, deleted first in error DOH)

I have purchased a lap top from PC World, it is an E System 1201 T2370. I had to change from vista to xp and the tech guys who support pc world sent me the drivers I would need to download, however, I now have no sound and they have abandoned me.

When I go into device manager under, there is an error message under PCI device it says the following in general

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

it says the following in details

PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7502&SUBSYS_5A001019&REV_00\3&267 A616A&0&78

Any help would be great, if further info required please advise, I am not very techy so go easy on me with terms etc

JOHYORKS

P.S The lap top beeps every now and again so something is still alive in there!

If you mean an Ei 1201 then audio is Realtk HD go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Tick I accept the above – wait till site resets then click Next

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
Restore point and follow instructions

Hi Barbara

I have done what you said and downloaded the driver from the link you sent and run this, however, I still have no sound, will the laptop automatically revert to using this driver as other sound drivers are still present ( i. e I have not deleted the drivers that were downloaded from the link sent by the tech guys). The PCI device error message is still present as mentioned before in my previous post, it is saying the driver is not present for this device (whatever the PCI device is), any other suggestions would be welcome, let me know if you require any information.

Yours hoping

check this to see if realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

make a note of this link, it's your notebook which is a Uniwill

Thanks again Barbara, I will try this and let you know how I get on, I assume that if the incorrect audio is selected it will be obvious, if so what would I need to do / select.

Also, when you say 'make a note of this link' do I need to download any of the drivers from this site in addition to what I have already downloaded.

Sorry if I don't fully understand your instructions but as mentioned I'm a bit of a muppet when it comes to all this.

Hi Barbara

Still no luck, in sound and audio devices I am unable to sound playback as it won't allow me, also in the same application under volume it say's 'no audio device' and I am unable to adjust the device volume as again this is blanked out as is speaker settings, everything in audio tab is also blanked out and also same in voice, one more point I noticed, in device manager under sound, video and game controllers there are no audio devices only audio codecs. Any help would again be most appreciated.

Thanks

Johyorks

p.s should I have done anything with the link you sent?

the uniwill link has all your drivers, it may be a good idea to bookmark, or download and save to disc.

check this out

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

It's a picky little devil, make a note of where the files were uncompressed ( unzipped ) then install this way using the If No Setup File method, you have to tell XP to use the driver

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Don't forget the Restore Point
