Unable to Exit Windows Messenger

Hi, I am brand new to XP. My daughter signed up for the MSN Messenger. When we try to exit the program from the Icon in task bar, we rcv the following
"there are other applications currently using feature by Window messenger. You must close these other apps. b4 you can exit Windows messenger. These apps. may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer & IE"
I have closed these apps to the best of my knowledge. Something is still open somewhere, I assume, but I can't find it. The problem is, while I am working here, her friends are sending messages. I can even sign into her MSN Msgr.
Can anyone tell me how we can completely exit MSN Msgr so I am not so tempted to invade her privacy?

Please let me know if you need more info than this:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1
2300 megahertz Intel Celeron

Thanks a bundle -- Denise

I don't use MSN Messenger, so I'm not sure if these instructions only work for earlier versions.

1. Double click on the little icon in the system tray.
2. When the program comes up, go to Tool/Options
3. Click on the Preferences tab
4. Uncheck the "Run this program when Windows starts"
5.. Click OK

At the next reboot this program will not automatically run.

Thanks, that did work, although I also had to uncheck "allow this program to run in back ground"
But now: when I re-opened the msgr, it automatically signed my daughter in. Would you happen to have to know how I can un-do this?

thanks again - Denise

At the top of the screen should be a "Help" button. See if you can find the instruction to "Log-Off" or "Sign-Off".

Found it! Thank you so much. For anyone else who may need to know Go to:
Control Panel>User Accounts>Change an Account>User
then under related tasks select "Manage my network passwords" This brings up the Stored User names & Passwords
Select "Passport.Net\*(Passport) then click the Remove button.

Thanks again! - Denise
