no start button and no start menu i need help!!!

hi im using a windows xp home dell

the problem is when i start up my computer it and on the desktop i have no start button and i cant use defragment it says "mmc failed to initialize because it was installed incorrectly or because a portion of the registry has become corrupted. make sure the file mmcndmger.ddl. is registered by running "regsvr32%system32%\system32\mmcndmger.ddl"" i have tryed this but still no luck.

and i dont have a start menu and i dont have internet on that computer.

i have 2 other computers that work and have internet.

i dont think its a virus.

and i cant do a repair install but i have the discs.

and last but not lest it did this after the turn off button was held in so that it would turn it off faster and i know i should not have done that. thats it hope u guys can help me with this.

Oh dear. Similar things have happened to me. If you're not a pro, get someone who is. You need to back the contents of your hard drive/s and reinstall windows on a blank hard drive. Then set it all up so it is working and put your backed up files on the hard drive inside the newly installed windows.

Sorry, but this can happen sometimes.

It would probably be much easier to do this if you had another PC you could plug the hard drive into to get the stuff off. There isn't an easy way to do this since your OS seems buggered.

Try bringing up Task Manager with 'Ctrl' + 'Alt' + 'Del'. Then click on the 'File' menu and select Run (new task).

Then type in explorer.exe and hit OK.

Hopefully your start menu should work then.

Now that that works you should try defragment again.

If it still doesn't work you should try to repair the registry.

If you have a backup of your registry use that.

If you don't then try reinstalling windows like i mentioned earlier.

If you need to reinstall windows you should probably pay a pro to fix it or not bother at all.
