No Audio Device problem

Hi,

i have no audio device and can not hear anything except the beeps. in 'audio devices' i can see all the options but they are grey and i cannot access them. it simply says 'no audio device' at the top.

Going on to my control panel and into administrative tools>component services>services(local)>windows audio and have the 'path to executable svchost.exe -k netsvcs problem.
i looked at other threads concerning this problem, and tried downloading AVG to run the full system scan in windows safe mode. i followed all the steps but i still have the same problem and svchost.exe is still on my laptop.

any ideas on how to get rid of it and get my audio back?
if i bought norman antivirus and ran it would it solve my problem?

Thankyou!

What happens when you restore to a date when the problem did not exist?

Click Start, Programs, and then Accessories
Click System Tools and open System Restore
In the System Restore window, select Restore my computer to an earlier time and click Next and follow the steps to restore your computer to an earlier date.
