Windows XP SP3 Problem...
I recently downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 3. Ever since I did that my computer has become slower and I keep getting a notice saying "automatic updates is turned off click on this balloon to fix the problem". So I click on it and the Windows Security Center opens. Then I click on the "Turn automatic updates on" button and get a pop-up notice saying "We're sorry. The Security Center could not change your automatic updates settings. To try changing these settings yourself, go to System in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates tab, select Automatic (recommended), and then click OK." But when I go to the control panel to turn it on manually it is already turned on. Also whenever I turn my computer on and the desktop loads I get messages saying that random DLLs failed to load. I'm not sure which ones they were but I will post them as soon as I get the messages again. Another thing is my Norton Antivirus. Whenever the desktop loads Norton support keeps popping up prompting a scan to autofix any issues with Norton. I run the scan and Norton says no problems were found. Mozilla Firefox crashes too when I have too many tabs open or if I try to stream something. Does anyone know why my computer is acting so weird? Hopefully my computer isn't infected?

Luckily, I've experienced no problems since this update, but set a system restore point before installing it just in case. If you did too, revert to that restore point. If not, you can uninstall it from within Add or Remove Software in Control Panel.
Look here for documentation regarding the update:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
If you reinstall it, make sure you check that everything is working ok, you've run all usual checks regarding viruses and systems etc beforehand.

Thanks Ant, I'll give it a try and see how it goes. By the way this is the RUNDLL message I get when Windows loads:
"Error loading C:\Windows\system32\qjxiejex.dll
The specified module could not be found."

I can't find any info whatsoever regarding this particular dll (possibly for a printer?). Do you have any idea what it relates to? If you can restore your system to pre-sp3 installation, it should be restored too. Copy it and reinstall it after (if) you reinstall sp3. You might want to reinstall norton and firefox also.
Go through all the routine maintenance stuff too mate, defragging, full system scanning, deleting temp files, updating drivers etc (the sp3 installation makes a backup of all third party drivers during installation).
As far as the windows automatic updates is concerned, look here for help:

Thanks Ant! I uninstalled sp3 and everything works fine now except for one thing. I am still getting the same problem with the automatic updates. I tried typing:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
in start -> run but I am still getting the same problem. Do you have any other ideas of what may be wrong? Or did I not do something correctly?

I tried it and it worked! Thanks a lot Ant, you're the best!
Apparently the Norton Support Center window still pops up every time I start my pc. I assume after I reinstall Norton I'll stop getting the support center pop-up? I have a new problem too. Every time I click on the Windows Live Messenger icon in the quick launch a "Windows Installer" window pops up saying "Installing...". After I click cancel WLM opens up. This problem just happened after I uninstalled sp3. Any ideas why that is happening? Should I just run an XP repair, or is that not necessary?
I was also wondering, what was the problem with sp3 on my computer? Was it a bug or something? Should I run an AV scan, resolve any problems that may arise then reinstall sp3? Or should I wait until sp3 is re-released, or will it even be re-released? Sorry for all the questions.

If you realise the sp3 is a major update affecting many different parts of your system, both hardware and software, and that it has to try to be as compatible as possible with every single combination of both that it finds, then you can see that some configurations will cause problems. Just because it's an update, it doesn't necessarily follow that it will end up being better for your particular setup, but just probably is for most.
As my system is fairly standard, I haven't experienced any problems, but I did when I installed SP2 (not on this machine), and it took a lot of messing about to get my system running properly again. Similar to the problems you're having now.
I'm glad your system is stable again, you might want to google sp3 for what it is and what it does before trying to install it again, and check the websites of the manufacturers of your software to see if there are any issues regarding sp3 and their software, particularly your anti-virus.
I'd suggest that you ensure that your system is clean and stable and that you make a system restore point before installing such a major update as is sp3. If anything doesn't work properly afterwards, then it's a simple procedure to restore your system to how it was prior to installation.
There's some information regarding sp3 (what it is, what it does, things to do before instalation and troubleshooting help) here:

Thanks for all the information Ant. I'll be sure to read up on everything to further increase my knowledge and to overcome any other possible problems I might encounter. One thing I don't understand though is lotukjuf.dll. What is that? I tried googling it but I could not find anything in regards to it. Do you have any idea what it is for? Now I get this RUNDLL Error loading lotukjuf.dll message whenever my desktop loads. Thanks for bearing with me as well!

I just turned off my computer, then turned it back on later today and again I have the same problem with the Windows Security Center. It is as if everything was un-done. Also when my desktop loaded I received this RUNDLL message:
"Error loading C:\Windows\system32\saatidyo.dll
The specified module could not be found."
I first recieved the RUNDLL message when qjxiejex.dll could not be found. Then according to Spybot S&D Resident qjxiejex.dll was replaced with lotukjuf.dll and now lotukjuf.dll is replaced with saatidyo.dll. I have no idea what's going on with my computer or what to do because I can not find anything when I google those 3 dll's. Is something terribly wrong with my registry? Should I just do a Windows Repair from the XP cd?

The dll filenames are, apparently, randomly generated and would suggest symptoms of infection from some kind of malware (a virus, spyware etc).
I doubt that just trying to repair the windows installation would be sufficient to solve the problem (you could try), though a reformatting and re-installation would. That's a last resort however as all your data files and programs installed on the system drive would also be lost. If you choose to take this option, backup all your data files on the system partition before you do.
Removing malware can be very messy, but your virus software might find it during a full system scan. There are also other programs available, just google malware removal or similar for some free programs.
Also look here for help on removal of malicious programs:

I ran a virus and spyware scan 2 nights ago and they found some spyware and a trojan. The trojan that was detected on my computer was Trojan.Vundo (Norton AntiVirus). I believe some other programs detect it as Smitfraud-C. Aside from that there were other bits of spyware. I removed everything and the random dlls stopped along with the disabling of automatic updates. However, when ever my desktop is loaded, Norton still detects the trojan and ends up removing it, and then detects it again the next time I turn on my computer. If I attempt to manually remove it, do you think I would be more successful?

Norton (nor in fact it's removal tool specific for this virus) is, apparently, entirely successful in removing it. Although it appears to be a low-rated threat, there's much to be found about it on google mate, including instructions to remove it. Obviously, in your case, it's remaining after apparent removal and restarting each time with windows.
By all means try to remove it manually.
(It does look as though you're finally making some headway though mate.)

I googled it before and didn't find anything majorly useful other then manual removal instructions. I'll google it one more time, see if anything new turns up. If not then I'm just going to go forth with the manual removal and see how that goes. Wish me luck! Thank you once again for all your help and for bearing with me!
