no sound, microsoft problem.

in control panel my sounds and audio device applet is all grayed out, the other tabs as well. I already tried uninstall\reinstall audio drivers but that did not work. I also tried going to the services applet and enable windows audio. I even tried enabling and disabling it. still not happening. the sound devices applet is still grayed out and I can not access the OS volume control (says no mixing devices found) but, I am guessing this is the same problem. I even tired something with machine.inf. there was somewhere that I looked that said to create a copy, delete an exception about 20 lines down, then use that with the add new hardware wizard to install a plug and play software emulator or something like that. nothing has worked. I am stumped.

any suggestions friends?

I actually just looked at my device manager and it has two !'s next to: Microsoft kernel acoustic echo canceller, and Microsoft kernel audio splitter. my sound card does not have any problems detected though. error for both of them is: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system.
