Unhappy Uninstalling Norton anti-virus from XP home wipes IP address aparantly !!

Tried uninstalling using norton's uninstall and XP's add/remove program
s to no avail. The program is removed sucessfully but it wipes the
ip address, the internet won't work as it can't see the modem,
using ipconfig I get 0.0.0.0 for the IP address?

I then have to restore to a point before the uninstall
to use the internet again ??

Any help greatly appreciated,
Eoin

Hmm I am not sure.

IP is only assigned to your computer when you connect to internet?

What if its a broadband connection and its on the whole time,
I'm fairly hazy about the infrastructure but I believe its a modem connected to a network card, so is the ip address fixed?

If its broadband can you not repair the connection by right clicking the modem or card and picking repair? Found in control panel under internet connections.
