how do i remove write protected files???

hi all, i have recently had to format my computer and have an external hard drive... after i formated it and got it up and running again i plugged my external hard drive back in i found it wouldnt let me back into some files as they were write protected, i am the only the only user of my computer hence i am the administrator, i dont want any of the files i cant get into but i cant get rid of them, can anyone help please??

If you dont want the files just format the external drive.
