Windows XP home edition sound codec problems

Hello,
i've just registered seems a great site for p.c help issues. Now am really having trouble with my sound i've just re-formatted my windows and i've done this a few times in the past month or so. Now the sound isn't working at all everything is pluged in the light on my speaker is on but no sound at all, i am thinking i need a updated sound codec perhaps???

So what is the best way to detec what soundcard i have and what codec i require,i asked on another site and the fellow said see what soundcard you currently have and download the required codec/driver but i aint a clue at all first time i've had a problem with my sound the p.c/desktop is about 5 years old now.

By the way its Windows XP;SP3 if its any use.

So can anyone help with my issue???

Yeah I had that problem some time ago this morning back when I started
trying to sort out all the problems with my pc after formatting it.

That'll help you, I just downloaded an xp sound driver and that worked
fine ^_^

Thanks for that will ; give that a go very soon,i've just downloaded and installed belarc its states this is my audio device/codec/whatever you call it;

So what do i need an updated version off this
