display settings in xp

I have a generic (ebay) computer with 1.6 gig, 60gig h.d. and windows xp home edition I also have an nvidia 64mg card.

Each time I boot up this computer the display "defaults" or simply jumps to the lowest setting causing a very large desktop.
I have to readjust each time that I boot up. How can I make the display settings permanent.?

Firstly ensure that you have the installed latest drivers for your graphics card.

Sir; thank you so much for your quick response, each time I try to upgrade the display driver the system tells me that I already have the best available and it will keep the same drivers.

Try removing the current driver before installing the new one.
