Question IE 8 RC1 insists on disabling all add-ons

I've gone repeatedly to the Managing Add-ons module and tried working with it. Downloaded Windows Live Essentials to get the Login Object v5.0.744.4 that Windows said I needed. In Managing Add-ons every add-on is individually shown as enabled, yet the information bar is blocked and the message that all add-ons have been disabled always appears. Also, working with all or any one add-on, the enable option or button does not appear or is grayed out. Thus I'm unable to install any ActiveX component.

Can anyone tell me what would cause Windows to insist on semi-crippling the browser each time it loads?

I'm running XP Pro SP3 with all patches up to date. Thanks.

I have downloaded ie 8 a while back and have yet to install it on any of my test or personal machines for lack of time to deal with any issues it may have. Going to install it after I post this and give the settings a look.
Just wondering what third party security programs you may use... Some like norton rule with a iron fist and since this is a RC build may have issues because of that. Be back later, will post if I see new settings that could cause what you describe.

Try opening internet options, go to the security tab. Click custom level then look for the following settings and try the settings listed below.

ActiveX controls and plug-ins:
Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt: ENABLE

Allow Scriptlets: Prompt

Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls: ENABALE

Downloads:
Automatic prompting for downloads: ENABLE

Apply the settings and see if that resolves your issues.

it only gets worse

RC1 will no longer even start. The MS setup program won't remove it nor re-install it such that it will run. No error message to provide guidance. And it won't let me re-install v7 since that would of course be a step backward in Microsoft's Great March Forward . . .

Silly me for thinking a release candidate might be relatively stable. Aarrgghh!!

I will be happy to give your suggestions a try as soon as I can get IE 8 RC1 to start up. :\ Thanks!

third party security

And in response to your question about third party security programs, I run nothing from Norton. My firewall is ZoneAlarm internet security suite, and I run Sunbelt's VIPRE, which is a combination anti-virus and anti-malware. That's it as far as software running resident.

Thanks again for your time.
