Internet Explorer Keeps Freezing

I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 running Windows XP SP3 with IE 7. Even before I added SP3 or IE 7, I was having the problem of my browser stalling and having to use control, alt, delete to close it. When the report error came up, I would hit the button for more info, unfortunately it won't let me copy and paste, but always the error is hung app and the location is C:documents\user\temp\ie5 If I locate these files and delete them, it will work for awhile, but then start again. I am running AVG free and Spybot S-D. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

If you have a high speed connection, try going to Tools>internet options>Click the advanced tab then scroll down to Security. Put a check in "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed" Click apply and ok. If your doing a lot or web browsing it is possible your just loading up on temp files.
Also "If you want to" you may want to consider using Firefox, Safari or Opera web browsers. Firefox is just as flexible as IE and usually more secure. I like Opera and Safari for some task, Firefox is almost a computer necessity these days.

I installed Firefox and really like it. Thanx. Now my question is...how do I go about uninstalling IE so it's not taking up valuable space on my computer?

Do not attempt to uninstall IE, it is a Windows operating system component. Much of Windows and most software programs use IE for something. At one time, on Windows 98, 95... and back you could remove IE, not anymore.

Hi, my name’s Feran and I’m working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to provide assistance and help answer questions people might have about Internet Explorer.

There is an Internet Explorer 8 release candidate available for download. As a release candidate, it is in the final testing stages and not the final version of IE8. But the new IE8 has enhanced security and stability features that you may find helpful.

If you think IE8 is something you might want to try out you can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/int...?ocid=ie8_sm_a

Also, the IE8 blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/ - will post something as soon as they do make the announcement regarding the final release. So anyone interested in the final IE8 release may want to keep an eye on it.
This site actually gives you the opportunity to test some of the new security and compatibility features in IE8: http://www.ie8demos.com/tryit/

I hope this helps!

Feran

Junebug (cut and paste)

Junebug,
You said you could not cut and paste an error message. Get a copy of SNAGIT and you will never do without it. It will grab anything and let you edit it beyond your wildest dreams OR simply cut and paste it. I think they have a trial versiond. Put SNAGIT in your search engine and it will lead you there.
