Norton Found virus but won't delete it

OS windows Xp
IE 6, service pack 3
Nortons 2002
I started noticing that when I logged in to website an ticked the keep me logged in box that I wasn't staying logged in like I use to. I now have to type in my username an password everytime instead of just my password.
I thought I might have a virus so I scaned it with nortons anti virus an this is what was found wuauclt.exe is infected with the virus W32.IRCBot i've tried what nortons said.
Disable the System restore
Update the the virus definitions
Restart in safe mode an do a full system scan, it found the virus but could not quarantine or delete it.
Can anyone help it would be much appreciated
