No sound after XP reinstall

Hi

I have recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on my daughter’s old laptop after she passed it on to her mother. Everything works fine except the sound card. I have downloaded the audio driver from the Samsung website (leo2allosaudio51003622) and installed it. There are no yellow question marks showing in Device Manager and it states that the device is working properly. However, no sound.

Sometime ago (I think December 2005) there was a similar query and the answer given by Gamemaster287 was:

There appear to be problems with WinXp and the viaudio.sys file, version 5.10.0.3622.

Try getting your hands on v5.10.0.3621 which works fine. Also the newer version is not digitally signed by Microsoft but the older one is.’

Can anybody help me to find a copy of this file or advise me what else I can try. I have attached Belarc report below.

Many thanks in hopeful anticipation.

Nigel

Oh woe is me!

No one seems to have any ideas about my little problem, or is it that I didn't describe it properly?

I shall wait a few more days and if no response I shall rephrase and post again.

Hello. I have a similar problem to many. After reformatting my hardrive, i have no audio and have gotten several errors over time when i try to fix it. I don't have a sound card because it's onboard, i have checked for yellow cautions in the hardware section but nothing shows up, no audio device is detected. I appreciate any help you can provide, my Motherboard is an Asus m2n32-SLI Deluxe. I also Recently flashed my bios to the most recent version also.

Congratulations AvengerX

Hi AvengerX

Pleased you solved your problem. If you hadn't, I would have suggested checking to see if your on board sound was enabled in the updated BIOS.

Unhappy HELP - Still in dire need of assistance.

I have now managed to install the new driver for the sound card on the laptop but sadly it has made no difference. Still no sound.

I have even activated 'SoundSentry' in the Accessibility Options and there is no visual indication when I click on, for example Critical Stop or Default Bleep in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. Maybe I have got this wrong and SoundSentry only works for system generated sounds played by the PC speaker.

The problem may have arisen due to the fact that I installed XP Home from a CD that did not come with the laptop. A 'restore' CD was supplied but my daughter has so far failed to locate it. One of the local IT gurus advised me that it did not matter which XP CD I used as long as I input the Product Key from the sticker on the laptop. This I did and everything went smoothly including activating XP on the 'net.

Just in case I forgot to mention it earlier, there are no question/exclamation marks showing against any components of the Sound , Video and Game Controllers in System Manager.

In the absence of my daughter finally locating the system restore CD, I would be most grateful for any other ideas on how I can solve this problem.

Regards

I can't find this model at Samsung, I'm searchimg in the UK, but if you can link to the model, then install the chipset driver, restart the comp, then install audio driver.

Unhappy Struggling Against The Slings And Arrows Of Outrageous Fortune!

Hi Bookworm

Thank you for your continuing efforts.

For some reason Samsung lists support for this model under A10 only at http://www.samsungpc.com/products/a10/a10.htm.

I obtained the original Audio Driver from http://www.samsungpc.com/products/a1...teddrivers.htm but there is no Chipset Driver on this page.

There is on http://www.samsungpc.com/products/a1...teddrivers.htm but not for XP (or Vista of course).

Do you think it might be worth trying the chipset driver for Windows 98SE or NT4?
Best regards

Thumbs down Correction to my last mesage.

As soon as I had posted my last message, I realised how stupid it was.
Of course I shouldn't install a chipset driver that is not specifically for XP!

I wish I knew how to edit my own posts. Can anybody advise me how to do that?

Disaster

got an idea of the driver, but Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

need to know the chipset, from what I can find they are VIA drivers

Smile Chipset driver

Hi Bookworm.

The Everest Report follows and it seems the chipset is VIA VT8364(A) Apollo KL133(A) / VT8365(A) ProSavage KM133(A), but everywhere I look it seems to be labelled as a video driver.

I had to chop the report to about a tenth of it's original size as the system would not accept it.

Very grateful again for your continuing help.

Question See last

The report in the last post was using Everest Home but before I noticed the link you had kindly placed, I tried with Everest Ultimate and in the report from Ultimate it said the chipset was:

VIA VT8362 ProSavage KN133

I am puzzled.

Disaster

can you check this to see if Via is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device
