No Sound Device after XP-64 install (HP DV6-1050us)

Why hello there!

I recently installed XP 64-bit on my HP DV6-1050us after checking that most of the hardware was supported in XP64. I have everything up and running except my sound... I am having the issue where all the devices are listed as properly installed (including my nVidia HDMI with 64-bit drivers from the nVidia website), yet I am getting the "No Sound Device" issue in my Sound Manager.

I have already tried various tweaks with the Plug and Play Enumerator, as well as a vast array of drivers for both Realtek and nVidia.

One issue I am having is that I can't seem to uninstall my nVidia HDMI drivers -- I read on a forum somewhere that the nVidia drivers can essentially block the onboard sound drivers, so I tried to uninstall them. Unfortunately no matter how many times I uninstall them through Device Manager, they pop back up after a reboot. I am also having a heck of a time getting into Safe Mode (F8 doesn't work?).

Currently going to try some new drivers and manually enter Safe Mode with msconfig. Thought I'd drop a line out here and see if anyone can help while I do.

Belarc report follows -- thanks for any help!

Jude

updated: Safeboot uninstall of nVidia drivers was unsuccessful -- nVidia reappeared after normal reboot.

I can change the driver for this hardware, but any drivers other than the nVidia ones result in a yellow exclamation mark and the error "this device could not start."

I had Windows update search, and surprise! It found a driver update for my soundcard. Now I have an IDT High Definition Audio Codec in my device manager with a little yellow exclamation point and a NVidia HDA device that reports that it is working. The error for the IDT HDAC is Code 10 This Device Cannot Start. I still have No Sound Devices.

Please tell me someone has some direction for me!

Thanks in advance.

I finally found the right Softpac -- one for a DV5 with apparently the same chipset. I had to do a clean install of XP before I could get it to work, though.

Order was:

1. Clean Windows install
2. Install Audio drivers:

SP41896 - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41896.exe

3. Install NVidia drivers (video ONLY)

Hope this helps anyone who has the same problem.
