XP service pack 1 and DNS problem - help!

Anyone having this problem: After installing Windows XP service pack 1 I cannot access ANY websites without receiving a DNS error. All of my settings look fine. I've released/renewed my IP address multiple times, uninstalled/reinstalled my NIC, unplugged my cable modem and plugged it back in to receive a "clean" IP address from my ISP. I do not have a cable modem router, just multiple IP addresses and all of my PC's running thru a switch in my house. I cannot ping out to any machine or website either. The werid part is that I can connect to online games but I cannot access any website.

A friend of mine had the exact same problem after installing SP1 but he was running a cable modem router and simply set the router to factory defaults, which fixed his problem. I don't have a router and have no idea how to proceed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

My other machine (without SP1 installed) still works fine so I know it isn't my ISP giving me fits.

you should try using a proxy server as this will or may help (go into your internet options and goto connections then click LAN settings and and click to add a proxy, then put a proxy server address in and use port 80 or 8080) this may help you out if it works let me know to make sure i am giving you a correct info. laterz.
ps you will need to use your ISP's proxy if they have one or go here to find one: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...ver+addresses.

OR DO THIS:

click start, run and type command then once at the DOS prompt type ipconfig /release

then after that type

ipconfig /renew

This will officially release your IP from your ISP and renew it as just pulling out the cable wont do it.
Hope this works.

He said he released /renewed his IP many times. PIMP pfft

Try this open regedit. goto

hklm-system-currentcontrolset-services-rasman-ppp-eap

and delete the "25" & "26" keys.

But first export the "eap" key just incase you have to put it back.
Once that is done reboot and make a new connection.

that should work.

Ahhhh Grendel, trying to make my advice look like crap...AGAIN. I gave 2 options to try as using a PROXY might help him access webpages. The other option was there to make sure he was doing the release renew properly. Anyways try pinging your loopback address to on 127.0.0.1 to make sure the modem responds, I know you said you can get onto online games but try it. I bet once you put a proxy server in your LAN settings you will receive web pages (make sure the proxy you are using lets you access it as some ISP's block other ISP's from using their proxies. Laterz
