Can't do a clean install XP Home

I have an IBM Netvista A21 with a 20G HD boot disk and a second 60G installed. I have had XP Home installed for about a year on it. Came home one day and computer had locked up. Tried to fix but not possible. Moved HD to my other computer to rescue important files. Then formatted the HD as one whole partition (NTFS).
I then installed the HD in the IBM again, changed the boot-sequence to boot from CD-ROM. I then begun to install XP from the CD. After installing all the files it goes to the first re-boot. When re-booting the problem begins. The Windows logo is briefly shown and then it reboots again, shows the IBM screen, sit there for a while and then it reboots again, and agian, - endless loop!!! I have tried to install from CD, from ther XP Start-up floppies but nothing works - always the same result.

Can someone point me in the right direction here?

If your hard drive checked out ok on another pc then I would look at ram next. Ram is the most likely to fail in the hardware department and your problem sounds like hardware to me. You can try removing a stick (if you have more than one). Or you could run memtest from a floppy and eliminate a ram issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked memory and it appears fine. But to be sure I installed a new 128MB memory stick instead of the old one. Same problem. I now have bothe sticks installed for a total of 256 MB. Same problem still. I have posted questions about this all over the place but so far I have not got any idea of what could be wrong.

I'm sure you'll get more responses here but I think you are in for a trial and error situation - possibly changing hardware till you find the culprit. I hate to say graphics card and have you run out and buy one. Keep checking back here for more ideas.

This appears to match this thread "Windows XP on IBM Netvista" exactly. Has anyone discovered a resolution to this issue? I've got the same problem. Thanks.
