Motion Arrows in movies?!

Hi there,

my problem is this... A friend of mine must have been messing with the settings on their computer.. because they had movies all working and now...

when the movie plays there is a series of arrows in a grid that depict the motion of the images... I've looked all over all of the media players he has but for the life of me I cannot find what's doing it!

I am sure it's some setting somewhere but, well.. I am feeling a bit dumb at the moment... Oh he is using a laptop and XP home. The program that work without the arrows is Power DVD But the Windows media player, Windows media player classic and Nero's media player display the motion arrows.

Can any one help me identify what the cause.. it's rather distracting when watching a movie!
