I have not been able to send and receive faxes using the computer fax that comes with XP. I have DSL broadband service for Internet purposes. I have gone through all the screen setups for the fax and have connected a manual phone connection whereby I can reconnect the phone line coming to the computer from the wall from the internal DSL modem to the internal dial-up modem. When conncected in fax mode I am able to create a fax okay, but when sending, the fax goes into pending status and stays there without ever being sent. Is there something else I need to do such as disable the DSL modem before trying to send or receive faxes, or is there simply some non-fixable incompatibility between DSL and faxing?
Normally fax belongs to telemodems - not to DSL.
Ask your DSLoperator.
Bad luck...
Somewhere I have been told you can fax via DSL but using a speciaL program.

I have the DSL filter on the incoming phone line and still no success. I have noticed that the internal dial-up modem that is set up with the Fax console is called a GTW V.92 Voicemodem. Is it possible that the modem that came with this Gateway computer is only for voice and not for fax?? Or are voice and fax modems one and the same?
Every Medem has to be a FAX modem before they are Voice modem.. one quick way of tesing it is , make a Hyper Terminal call just to hear the ring tone, if that works then I would suggest you to get a cheap Faxing application (I perfer Winfax Pro 10.x),, if Hyper Terminal call did not work for you then check this web site for your modem problem..... Thank you, snowmonkey. Your sending me to the Gateway web site solved my problem. I simply had to download the latest version of the GTW modem, and with that, everything is working fine. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
