Startup Menu - Right Location?

I am trying to determine what is "launching" when I start my computer. I'm still pretty new to XP so I am still stumbling about.
I don't wish to have any P2P or Messenger type items launching when I start my computer.
When I go to C:\Documents&Settings\user\StartMenu\Programs there are several items here: AOL IM, ICQ, Winamp, Adaware, IE, Winmx, Remote assistance, Windows Media player, Outlook Express etc.. But also folders. "My Accessories Folder" (which has several items & a couple more folders within it).
Does this mean all these items are launching when I turn on computer?
There is also a "Startup" folder in the C:\Documents&Settings\user\StartMenu\Programs but it is empty.
Am I looking in the correct place to disable items I don't use or want to launch from start up?

Thanks for any help - Denise

ok do this

start>run

then in the run box type

msconfig

after that you get the system configuration utility

go to the startup tab

in there is a list of all the things that start up when your pc loads up.

just look for the progs you dont want to load and uncheck them

be careful not to disable any drivers that you need such as a keyboard driver. only check the program that you dont need like kazaa and aim and stuff.

to determine what the program is try expanding the commmand tap and look at the location it should clue you on what your about to disable.

hope this helps
