Network Issues with XP Home
I recently upgraded my Win98 computer to Windows XP Home. I did a completely fresh install by renaming the old windows directory.
Now, I can not maintain a persistant connection to anything. It is most apparent when I stream audio or video. After 10 to 15 minutes I get the lost connection message.
I have 3 computers behind a NATed rounter on a DSL line. One of the other computers is running Win2K Professional with no network issues, the other a Linux box also without any issues. So I know it is not my local network, the router or even my provider. Furthermore, this machine used to not have any issues until I install XP.
The symptoms also manifest when I am downloading large files and the 10/15 minute window rolls around. Also, when my mail client is downloading durning the connection reset. It also happens when I am browsing a site and moving between pages and the connection reset happens resulting in a 404 message. Pressing Refresh reloads the page correctly.
I am suspecting that there is some problem in the IP layer of Windows XP. There must be something forcing a socket reset. Unfortunately, I do Enterprise UNIX system and not desktop Windoze. If this was a Linux box I could find the problem and fix it.
HELP!
Anyone else experience this issue or familiar enough with XP to tell me how to monitor the sockets and network layer?
THANKS!
Bryan
