My Computer reboots just as installing devices progress bar appears

OK so I replaced my other HD (40 gb WD) with a new one since I thought it was dead (as i was having reboot issues) and put in another 160gb WD in its place. These all ATA btw, so i put in my windows xp pro cd and fire up the machine then it loaded all its stuff to install windows. I then proceed to delete the partition then create a new one, that goes fine. Then I format it using the NTFS (quick) one. It copies the files needed and that goes fine then needs to rebooot to start installing
I get the welcome screen and then it says installing windows and as soon as the progress bar in the bottom left appears it reboots. When it reboots it goes to the restarting setup screen, goes as far as the progress bar again and reboots.

It would repeat that cycle all day and night if i let it.

Thanks in advance your help

Gforce 5500 256mb video

40 GB WD secondary slave

Hi, this issue could be a memory issue. If you have mutiple sticks of ram try removing 1 stick and reboot or swaping some over.

I have tested the memory with memtest86+ and it tested out fine and unfortunately i have plenty of spare RAM but of course not the type i need. Do yo think that it could be bad even if memtest86+ found it to be ok?

Hi, if memtest came through ok I would try this.
Rest bios to fail safe defaults
Swap out memeory
Remove all the cables and reset them
Make sure that all dust is removed from inside the PC
If all this fails it may be an issue with the M/B I had the same issue with a PC would reboot half way through the install process..I swaped ever thing out and in the end the M/B was history.
good luck.
