Smile Help - additional memory crashes the desktop

My PC is running Window XP and has 1GB of memory. I have purchased additional 1GB to put it into the spare slot and when done, computer is booted it shows it has additional memory, but crashes. It does not matter what slot the new memory goes, the PC will crash.
Someone told me that BIOS needs to be flashed. I believe the BIOS has the software from AWARD SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL INC. 6.00PG 05/29/2002
The Motherboard is P4X266-8233.
If anybody knows and has the software please send it to me to liba@talktalk.net.

Many thanks in advance,

Liba Jones

Hi, what speed memeory did you buy? Your motherboard only supports DDR 200/266 or PC100/133 SDRAM memory.

If your new memory is okay, then i would seriously look in your bios, and check to see what voltage your memory is set at. Certain motherboards require a tad more voltage if you add more memory.

A place to start would be to only put the original memory stick in there and see if it runs okay. If it does, then pull it out and put the new memory stick in there and check to see if it still is okay. If it is okay, then a safe bet would be that you need to bump up the memory voltage in the bios, one step at a time.
