Sound problem with Asus P4S533-MX

I noticed a lot of people had this problem, several people posted in the Multimedia audio controller mega theard, but it still remains unresolved so I thought I'd start a new thread. Hopefully someone can fix this issue. I've been searching for 2 days for a solution but no luck.

The problem:
No sound for WinXP users with the Asus P4S533-MX motherboard w/ onboard sound card. I downloaded and extracted the driver for 'SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3665 WHQL for Windows 98/ME/2K/XP' from Asus, but no luck.

I've also tried to install the drive for Sis 7012 and it gives me an error message with a bunch of numbers.

I should also mention that I'm a total newbie in terms of computers.

Any help is much appreciated. I hope this issue can be resolved for me and everyone else.

I wonder if you might not be further ahead to just go to your local PC repair shop, and ask to buy a second hand sound card.

Even buying a sound card from a CompUSA or Newegg, can be had for as cheap as $10.
