Windows Sockets?

Done an external virus scan to my gf's pc using a usb to ide reader, lifted a load of stuff of it an now the pc is saying Something about windows sockets is missing, it wont connect to the internet, can't install anything, running very slow, tried pingin it an it just says error code 0, any help? tried repairing the files using xp cd twice no joy

You could try this

It has provisos that it 'should be used by IT professionals' so YOU make the decision. It resets the WINSOCK settings which is where your problem appears to be.

I have used it many times and never been disappointed but without knowing your exact circumstances I can only tell you it is there.
It will offer to create a restore point/backup your registry so accept every offer it has to get back to where you start.
