PC Anywhere installed?
I noticed when I installed Symantec PC Anywhere, it disables the Fast User Switching, I suppose for security. If you have it, that's most likely the problem.

I do not have PC Anywhere installed; however, thank you for your suggestion.
Whatever it is keeps resetting my registry entries everytime I set them to what has been suggested to me. It is undoubtably one of my applications, I just have to find out which one.

My services for Fast User Switching is set to Automatic.
I also looked at the above links and did not find anything new to try; however, I did post my problem on the Annoyances Forum.

Thanks for the suggestions and the help.

Here is how to fix Fast user switching problem
I was experiencing the same problem, i.e. I used to check the checkbox for FUS and it used to get unchecked on its own, I was sure it was not due to memory coz it used to work fine for me.. then i searched on google and reached this page with some suggestions, none worked for you.. so went ahead and did some further researching, here is what resolved the issue :
The Fast User Switching Compatibility service depends on the Terminal Services service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
So go to control panel ->administrative tools -> services... now here make sure that the "terminal services" is running (started) . thats all you need other than making sure that the Fast user swithcing checkbox is checked under user accounts..

The checkbox still gets unchecked after doing everything in this thread.

Could be your services
Dude, check out whether or not you have Terminal Services disabled. If it is disabled the Switch User service cannot be started.

I was having the same problem and after much forum searching fixed it.
I had to do this
open control panel
administative tools
services
make sure that terminal services AND fast user switching is enabled
they both must be enabled to use this feature
frustrated to the MAX!

Also had the same problem. I used this Forum for information.
I have terminal services on manual and I started it manually.
I did the same for Fast user switching service.
Works like a charm. Didn't even have to restart.
Thanks every one.

Just to say that I found this forum yesterday and after months of the Fast User Switching problem, you guys have managed to help me fix it. Used the method in the previous post and it worked a treat. Many thanks.

Do you have a netgear WLAN adapter
If you do it will have installed some other options for logging in, to enable the use of domains. This causes the login-screen to be different and you cannot select fast user switching.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...x_xp_logon.htm fixed it for me.

Terminal Services was the answer for me
I had the same problem as everyone described. When I would check the FUS option and click "apply" and then return back to the option or rebooted, the checkmark was gone. I forgot that I disabled Terminal Services a few days ago (yea i love tweaking my pc) and once i enabled it, FUS worked perfectly. Hope this will be the resolution for many others instead of more serious or time consuming alternatives.

What have you got runnig
search www.altavista.com for
Fast User Switching troubleshooting
go to control panel, admin tools & services
Locate terminal services & check to see if its on manual
Locate fast user switching & check to see if enabled
Did you apply changes before closing the user acounts screen
Have you tried e-mail microsoft directly
