Angry Solution for power down/system shutdown-XP Automatic Shutdown

I followed the tweak that enables XP to turn off the computer automatically at shutdown as indicated below and as posted under performances:

1. Went to Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/System.
2. Selected the Hardware tab and then selected Device Manager.
3. Under the 'View' menu selected Show Hidden Devices. Double clicked NT/Apm/Legacy Interface Node and enable device. De-selected show hidden devices again and re-booted.

-Then the instruction says: "Now your PC will shutdown automatically just like good old Windows 98."
-However, my computer re-boots itself.
-Anyone knows why it happens and a solution for this ? It's frustrating.

Thanks,
Michelle.

Value Name:PowerdownAfterShutdown...Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (0 = default, 1 = power down)

Hello snowmonkey, and thanks.
Unfortunately the registry has no \Winlogon under CurrentVersion
So, can't follow the suggested tweak. I wonder why.... ! Michelle.

Shutdown

Check for "Windows NT" not just Windows
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Unhappy

Hi,

I have a problem where on my old computer [I had to go get another computer , but would still like to get the old one fixed] just continuously restarts itself over and over again without break and would just restart in an endless cycle of restarting itself all day if one did not turn it off.
The Computer is a Pionex with Windows 2000 Professional Edition.
I can't quite get much info without attempting to turn it on and then it is unusable in an unending cycle of restarting the computer endlessly.
Does anyone here have any idea as to how to remedy this problem?
