hard disk recognition

I have a very strange problem.

The only way I can boot to windows is by choosing last known good every time.

Once I am in, when I click "start" then "shutdown" all I get is a constant hour glass forever, I don't even get the options of restarting etc... therefore I have to shut down via power button so windows doesnt save my settings....therefore, when I restart and choose "start windows normally" for some reason windows gets to my desktop picture and then nothing happens after that, ie. no icons,no taskbar etc.

when I try and do a windows repair from my windows cd, the program doesn't even detect a hard drive on my pc!

I also have the ER Commander Boot disk and this detects no hard drive and no windows installation either.

Hi ... Is that the only hard drive you have install ? Is the jumper set correctly ? Also check the cable ribbon , I doubt its that but its worth a shot

Odd one- things to try
1)reset the bios
2) replace bios battery (no need to do 1)

Power Supply could be bad, and it does point to problem with mother board /cpu. Try 2 above and wait for others to respond.
