Sluggish System Sucks

Hey!

My system is running really sluggish, otherwise running the way it has not ran before and it's driving me insane.

I can click to open my outlook express via a taskbar shortcut, and I have to hit it about 3 or 4 times to open it up (I do wait a while between clicks - I'm just that impatient )
Then it'll FINALLY open, it takes about 2 times to open up internet explorer, then it'll take it's time about downloading a page, and my home page is google.com so it's not an awful lot of info to download, and I am also on a cable connection running about 512 - 600 k.......after that most web pages happen within a blink of an eye.

The only thing I have running within start up is AVG Virus scanner.

What bothers me is it never used to do this, and I downloaded a windows media patch and now it seems like it's acting strange, I thought it was pyschological or sumthin but I had my husband test it out and he noticed the same thing.

I have ran virus software, adware software and a trojan scanner.....nothing - clean as a whistle.

Anyone have any suggestions in what could be causing my system to "malfunction" ?
Thanks
MoMo

PS: I don't always post just if I have a problem, I do read other peoples problems, but I just don't often have a solution.....

Have you run "Disk Cleanup" and "Disk Defragmenter" recently? Cleaned out "Temporary Internet Files"?

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

Yes, disk clean up, disk defrag, temp files, cookies, I have done the whole summer cleaning - but it just seems when trying to start a program....anyways I know tha tmy PC is not working the way it should and I can't understand why.

Could the inside temp. of my house cause some kinda like extra heat inside my casing ?
I'm cold blooded and like my house warm, and living in the South that is a very easy task........but it seems like the top of my pc is quite warm most days and this PC is a stinkin emachines so there is like on teeny tiny fan inside.

Over time could this affect system performance ??

Yes, overheating can cause problems. If you need a way to check your motherboard and CPU temperatures, you can download this utility. Click "Computer" and then "Sensor".

When did these problems start? A couple of months ago Microsoft released a package called MS03--013 or Q811493. The symptoms that you're describing are typical of the problems that many people experienced after downloading this "Hot Fix". If you downloaded it, you may want to remove it in the Add/Remove section of your Control Panel.
