computer shuts down when I want it to restart

I've got a strange problem here. I'm running WindowsXP Home on my Sony Vaio laptop (1.13GHz, 512MB RAM) and when I wish to restart the computer by clicking restart, it performs a complete shutdown. I've seen loads of links for the reverse problem, ie the computer restarts when you want it to shutdown, but not for this one. Could there be some application screwing it up? I've seen that some CD writing software, like Roxio Easy CD may cause such problems, but I don't have that installed, though I do have Nero Burning ROM and Disc Juggler. Could one of these be the problem? I tried restoring the computer to a previous time, when it was working fine but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hey. You can try creating a .bat file containing the following information without the Quotes.

"shutdown -r -t 0"

To do this go into notepad enter the information above and click File> save as. Save this file anywhere u like calling it "restart.bat"
odnt forget the .bat at the end. Now find the file and make a shortcut on you desktop, start menu, or wherever and when u wish to restart, run the file. Should work.

Had other glitches and frustrations so I decided to backup and reinstall. All's swell now.
