NTLDR is missing???????

Hi everyone this is my first time on this site, i asked everyone about ths and no one knows i hope someone on this site had this problem, ok first of all i had windows xp pro running on my comp before i just decided to do a clean install, so i formatted my harddrive using FAT32 (Quick) and so it went all good through the first section where windows loads files, and copies them into the harddrive and then it restarts in 15 seconds after all that was completed, so it restarted and it just wouldnt go any further then the black screen saying, NTLDR is missing, press any key to restart, and i am only running 1 harddrive, i dont know what can be wrong, i tried fixboot in recovery console, fixmbr, bootcfg rebuild etc.., what else is there to do? i hope someone knows thanx alot, by the way if i leave the cd rom in it shows a different error message saying, couldnt open drive multi 0 disk 0 rdisk 0 partition 1 and for NTLDR same thing, i think thats the order it went in, anyways hope someone posts on here thanx alot everyone i apreciate it.

Check out "How to Repair the Boot Sector" on this page. You'll need your XP CD.

If you followed Esaladuane's advice there is'nt much more that can be done except a fresh install. I would make sure to check your hard drive with chkdsk or better yet, check your hard drive with a diagnostic tool from a hard drive manufacturer (most of them offer a free tool or an online tool). Once you have eliminated a hard drive problem go ahead with another install. I always do the thorough format just to make sure. Good luck.

So - when you put the hard drive in your friend's pc it boots up fine with no errors right? In your pc you get the ntldr is missing message right? If this is the case something is wrong with cmos in bios. Go into bios and double check everything. Make sure your hard drive is being detected properly. Is bios set for auto-detect? Check your friends settings with your own and possibly you can find an inconsistancy.
