Dual Boot system

Hi I am currently using Dual Boot on my hardrives C:\ win98se(FAT) and D:\winXP Pro(NTFS)

Recently I have my problem with my WIN98SE and I am likely to reformat my partition C:\WIN98SE(FAT) but the problem if I format C:\ drive and my WINXP PRO on D:\ wont bootup because the bootsector is overwrite.

Anyone can help me overcome the problem to format C:\ without damaged the boot sector so I no need to reiinstall WINXP on D:\

I had try format C:\ WIN98SE before and cause my WINXP cannot boot because it overwrite bootsector.. and I had to reinstall back on D:\ WINXP PRO (NTFS)

I hope someone can provide me information formating dual boot system without reinstall XP on D:\(NTFS)

Thank you

are c: & d: 2 seperate drives or just partitions?? if they are seperate disks then just fdisk.exe the required drive you want to format if that still doesnt work then you will need to get your hands on a copy of Partition Magic as this will sort out your problem a whole lot quicker and easier. anyways give it a try and tell me how you got on.

Oh yeah also check were your XP swap file is as if its on c: it might cause a few probs so you might want to change it to the same drive as XP. laterz

I used the same drives and partition C:\ (FAT) & D:\ (NTFS)

I just want to reformat C:\ and reinstall fresh copy of WIN98SE and leave my XP PRO on D:\.

But If I format my C:\ Drives, I wont be able to boot my XP PRO on D:\

And I think the swap files for XP PRO is on D:\

So how do I repair the boot loader after reinstall WIN98 SE on C:\ drives..

Thank you

this is only an advice: make a winxp boot disk (do you know how to do this? if not try to search on microsoft.com) then do what you want to do with win98, after you're done, put the floppy boot disk in and have your comp boot from floppy, hopefully this method will boot to your winxp, and once your winxp gets booted, the loader should work again. i hope so!

i haven't tried this before, so it is only an advice as i thought of it. if you are unsure, search on microsoft website, they should have related info for you.
