Unhappy problem with jpg/programs closing

I have a brand new Dell 4500 Pentium 4
windows xp home edition
1 gig ram
80 gig hard drive
2.0 megahertz
cd rw/dvd rw
cd r
monsoson speakers w/subwoofer
nvida geforce4 graphics card
I'm heavily into graphics and use paint shop pro and photo impact, recently i've had a problem where I open and jpg and go to file..save as and the program closes no error no nothing, this also happens when I open an image into my browser or even when I tried inserting an image into outlook express. It happens alot and each program will abruptly close. Sometimes they work ok and other times which is most of the time they just close and the image doesn't get saved etc.

Have you heard of this?
thanks for any help you can possibly give me...i'm a web editor for a property management/ real estate company and I really need my images to work as i'm busy trying to get them added to the website.
Ps....yes i've installed the sp1 and this was happening before that was installed.

I got this with PSP occasionally when I tried saving the JPG to a folder THAT I CREATED IN THE SAVE STEP. TO keep it from happening I:

1) Saved the file as a master .PSP file first to a pre-exsting Windows folder (this is just so that you have a fonal master file in case anyhting goes wrong- you won't have to re-do any work in case of an unexpected close) .

2) Made sure the target directory/folder was already created in Windows before I tried saving. Do this in Windows Explorer and NOT through ahything in PSP.

3) Used the "Export-> JPG Optimizer" tool, and saved the resulting file in the folder I created in Step #2.

Let me know if this helps you!

it seems tho that the problem isn't isolated to only psp... 20/20 does the same thing as well as when I open an image via file open the browser closes..when I do a
> file...save as in psp..psp closes..when I click browse to upload an image
> anywhere the browser closes..when I click to insert an image into outlook
> express..outlook express closes...

my system
pentium 4 processor a 2.0 ghz w/ 512 L2 cache
1 gm ddr sdram
64 mb nvidia geForce4 Mx graphics card with tv out
80 gig ultra ata/100 hard drive
10/100 pci fast ethernet Nic
56 k pci telephone modem
48 x max variable cd- rom drive
turtle beach santa cruz dsp sound card
monsoon speakers w/ subwoofer
microsoft office xp small business w/ educate u training
dvd+rw/cd-rw drive
4 usb and 4 pci slots
enhanced keyboard with two usb ports
Windows XP Home edition

so then....use any folder that was created with windows or in windows explorer....not one that was created when I did file save as in psp..k got that....but what about folders I created outside of psp.....say I was in my documents and created my pictures then my jpg's etc?
