Unhappy After new XP and 2k instalation it just wont start!

Hi. recently my puter restarted and it wont start again with the BSOD msg "Cannot load Hive File on

/windows/system/(something cant remeber)/Config/software

and it imediatly reboot ! so after trying to boot in Safe Mode, Directory Services Repair and have nothing work I had to settled for a new instalation.. witch i did and guess what, same error !
in dispair i formated.. and installed again.. AND GUESS WHAT I have no idea what it is and how to fix it ! My Instalation CD is working fine cuz i installed on other PC's with no problem.. and so are my HDD cuz i tried to install in more then one HD.. i really have no clue what to do.. I tried to install Win2000 and the same thing happened only in the good old Win98 everything works fine... can ANYONE help me ?!

I'm on a Pentium3 733Mhz, 384MB Ram.

please search for hive file problem in the knowledge base at microsoft.com. i remember seeing something like that in there. microsoft knowledge base is usually helpful. try it!

I read your post again, and that article will not work for you since you formated and reinstalled.

If the SAME error came up after formatting, then you prolly have a hardware problem; or it might be a MBR virus.

If you received the error in Win2000 then its deffinatly a hardware issue. Probably the RAM.

Swap out the RAM to see if you can get the error to repeat.
