Can't Access any .exe Files - Windows Crashing

Hey all, I was reading through the forum's and i'm having the same problem as of late, every hour or so my PC just decides to reboot itself and it's driving me nuts..

I ran into another problem first and foremost i was wondering if i can get some help with - my wife awhile ago had downloaded something on here - i'm not sure what but it caused all my .exe files to loose location.. What i mean is if i had a shortcut to something anywhere on my pc i can not access the file and it also corrupted most of the exe files that i used normally.. I fixed most of them - redownloading the ones i needed, but simple programs like Disk Defrag and Cleanup do not work either they give me a /command not found error.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I'm just about ready to go buy a new PC because i'm so beyond frustrated with the PC rebooting all the time it's driving me up a wall.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

you may have 2 problems. If you can, check your cpu temp. the fan may have quit since it seems to reboor regulary.

Your wife may gotten a nasty. Do an online scan www.symantec.com www.pandasoftware.com bottom left and www.pcpitstop.com. If there's anything these free scans may help you.

I agree with augie2. A virus scan should be a priority. There are virus' that go after exe files.

just so everyone knows who may read this running into the same problem - the exe problem i havn't yet fixed but no virus' on my PC i tried all the scans just to be safe..

But for the rebooting problem i was reading the other thread and installed

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...291-x86-ENU.exe

along with updating all my drivers and making sure all my windows updates were at present time and I havn't rebooted now since early last night and was able to use all programs i couldn't use when the rebooting at started..

So give it a shot - it may work
